Baldur is one of the main bosses in God of War 2018, and he briefly appears during the game’s early stages. The initial boss fight is crucial, as it sets the tone for the entire game and gives players an idea of what they can expect from God of War’s combat. God of War Ragnarok’s combat is even better than its predecessor, as gamers can take advantage of their surroundings to inflict more damage. Now, one God of War Ragnarok fan has made note of some key similarities between the opening battles of the two games.

Twitter user Kingof_Ithaca uploaded a video showing the cinematics of the two boss fights from the God of War franchise simultaneously. The top half shows the battle with Baldur, and the bottom shows Thor boss fight from God of War Ragnarok. The 30-second video shows intriguing parallels between the two conflicts, highlighting particular sections that are nearly identical to one another. For example, the video shows both Baldur and Thor facing away, then suddenly turning to land a devastating blow to Kratos, flinging him in the air. Moreover, both fights have parts where Kratos slams the opponent with a massive object like a tree trunk.
A notable feature of Baldur’s boss fight from God of War is when he tries to overpower Kratos and breaks the deadlock by punching, after which both are sent flying for several hundred feet. God of War Ragnarok’s fight with Thor also has the aforementioned characteristics, with slight differences. In both encounters, Kratos frees himself and punches the opponent multiple times before being thrown away. Kingof_Ithaca received tremendous appreciation from the God of War community on Twitter, who admired their video editing skills and attention to detail.
The similarities between Thor and Baldur’s fighting styles are understandable, as they are from the same family in the God of War universe. Some fans hypothesize that as Baldur and Thor are brothers, they might’ve received similar training at some point. Even though their fighting styles are alike, the God of War Ragnarok boss is mightier than Baldur, as he also has devastating lightning attacks.
